In 2018, the museum was visited by more than 10 million tourists.
The Louvre Museum in Paris welcomed 10.2 million tourists in 2018, the highest number in the world.
The lion’s share of visitors, about 75%, were foreigners.
Louvre director Jean-Luc Martinez believes this is a sign that Paris has recovered from the decline in tourist flows.
In 2018, the French formed the largest group of visitors (2.5 million), followed by Americans (almost 1.5 million) and Chinese (almost 1 million).
Martinez said that the improvements, costing almost 60 million euros, will allow the Louvre to better cope with the crowds. There are new ticket offices, a new luggage room and new facilities for group tours.
